Racism is magnifying the deadly impact of rising city heat

Large swaths of the United States are facing stretches of record breaking temperatures. For years, scientists have been mapping correlations between race, poverty and heat in cities, and suggesting solutions to reduce the dangers. As we move deeper into the heat of the summer months, it is worth revisiting this article published by Nature. Extreme heat takes a disproportionate toll on Black and Latinx populations and those living in lower-income communities, leaving them at higher risk of heat-related illness or death than their white neighbors.
