Susan J. Fowler

Senior Consultant

Susan Fowler brings many years of consulting experience in the nonprofit and public sectors to her current work with MDC. Her consulting experience includes a variety of strategic planning, evaluation, and program planning projects, as well as a great deal of group facilitation, team building, and design and facilitation for learning events. Most of her projects have included facilitating the work of public/private partnerships and community collaborations.

During the six years she spent on staff at MDC, Susan worked with community and faculty groups in a number of cities and community colleges around the country to facilitate strategic planning toward their shared goal of increasing the attainment of post-secondary credentials, especially among students of color and first-generation college students. Serving as MDC’s first Director of Organizational Learning, she led planning teams for numerous cross-site learning events for a variety of MDC initiatives. She also planned and facilitated many collective learning events for the MDC staff and taught facilitation and coaching skills to several cohorts of MDC staff.

In addition to her consulting work, Susan was a faculty member for UNC’s Institute of Government online MPA program for two years. She served as an instructor for the course entitled “Professional Work Experience,” in which she guided the students in a process of reflecting upon and distilling their learnings from the previous semester’s internships.

Susan earned a BA with Highest Distinction (Phi Betta Kappa) in Psychology from the University of Rochester and an M.Ed. in Adult and Higher Education from UNC-Chapel Hill.
